L'Indonesie comment elle vit

Still from "L'Indonesie comment elle vit"

A short black-and-white movie by Dutch film pioneer Willy Mullens about Indonesia in the 20s. The later added French audio is very (politically) incorrect, but the movie itself show beautiful images of historical Indonesia.

The Batik culture is also presented in "L'Indonesie comment elle vit". In a few images they show the making of Batik with caps and canting. The voice-over tells that 'the old craft Batik is stimulated with finance by the Dutch government'..'and that the Art of Batik is improving'..

The movie is beautiful, and I still recognize the Indonesia of today in it. The movie "L'Indonesie comment elle vit" is part of the DVD box "Nederlands Indië, Van Nederlandsch-Indië naar Indonesië, but you can also watch it partly online.
